One of the cool things about brainspotting is that your body continues to work on healing, even when you are not in session. Your brain will continue processing and releasing stored stress after your brainspotting session has ended.
The bulk of neurological change happens within three to five days after your session. This can show up in different ways, which we will discuss at the end of your session.
Below are things you can do that will aid your brain and body in releasing stored stress over the next three to five days:
Drink water. Drink water. Drink water. Our body functions best when it is hydrated. The stored stress will leave your body more easily if you are hydrated.
Movement. Light exercise. Go for a walk, stretch, do yoga… some sort of enjoyable movement.
Grounding, also called earthing, is a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth. Walking barefoot, lying on the ground, submerging yourself in water by swimming, taking a bath or shower are all good ways to aid your body in removal of toxins.
Rest and focus on self-care. Some people feel tired after brainspotting, so it’s ideal to allow some time to take it easy. Be intentional about self-care over the next three to five days.
Please take mental notes of any new or out of the ordinary thoughts, realizations, emotions, sensations or dreams you may
have over the next few days so you can discuss what your post-brainspotting experience was like for you at the beginning of your next session. Reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns!
